Above: You’ve seen how the 85mm f2 compares for portraits and bokeh blobs, but what about distant subjects focused at infinity? To find out I shot this scene with all three lenses across their aperture range, and don’t worry I wasn’t drunk, it’s angled like this so that fine details go right into the corners, otherwise you’re just looking at featureless sky. Here’s the RF 85mm f2 wide-open at f2 where it’s of course sharp in the middle as expected, but also impressively crisp right into the far corners – and remember this is wide-open. A F1.8 wide aperture is complimented by powerful Dual Sensing IS technology, which lets photographers shoot without blur from camera shake thanks to 5-stops of image stablisation. A new chapter in image quality Unique video portraits with Canon cinema zooms Unique video portraits with Canon cinema zooms Unique video portraits with Canon cinema zooms No focus or other scales. Everything is read-out, including distance, in the viewfinder or rear LCD, so that's even better than having it on-lens. The legendary Canon 50mm legacy has been reborn for the RF mount. This lens in the EF mount was a go-to for all fashion and portrait photographers for over a decade. It provided a unique rendering not seen in any other Canon lens, with almost a medium format look to its images.

Above: Switching to manual focus allowed me to achieve a fractionally better result as seen here, but it remains less crisp than the newer RF models to its left. Now there may be an issue with my own 85 1.8, but remember it’s almost 30 years older from a time of film SLRs and even a better-behaved sample is unlikely to perform anywhere near as well as a modern lens. It was simply never designed for this kind of resolution.Depending on your usage, the issue of middling edge sharpness may not be a factor. Portrait photographers will likely have no problem with unrefined corners, but those intending to put this to general-purpose use for things like landscapes may be a little less forgiving. It's interesting the f/5.6 isn't sharper, this is because this amazing lens is already ultra sharp at f/1.8 and doesn't need to be stopped-down for optimum sharpness. This Canon RF 800mm f/11 IS STM super-telephoto lens for Canon EOS R-series full-frame mirrorless cameras gives phenomenal reach but is much smaller and more lightweight than competing lenses for DSLRs. At 1,260g, it’s perfectly viable for long periods of handheld shooting, aided by a highly effective optical image stabilizer. It also has a retractable mechanism to cut down on stowage size, making it ideal for use anywhere and everywhere from local sporting events to wildlife shoots in far-flung corners of the world. protector approved by the Underwriter's Laboratory Inc. Currently you'll have to use Canon's Digital Photo Professional 4 software to post-process the RAW files and make them usable, at least until Adobe, Capture One et al release their own profiles for this lens. The Micro-, Macro- and Close-Up photography is all about lens optical magnification ratio, nothing to do with the sensor sizes or the megapixels or even focus distances. Only thing that matters is how lens does magnify the object in front of the lens to the rear of the lens. It's a super-fast f/1.8 which lets us shoot in darker conditions at lower ISOs at faster shutter speeds than with any zoom lens regardless of price. Nort It's super sharp from corner to corner. This image is focused at infinity so closer objects are softer:

When shooting JPEGs and video, there's some obvious vignetting which requires you to stop down by at least 2 f-stops to prevent it completely, but there's little evidence of chromatic aberrations. Distortion is also well controlled as the camera body automatically applies corrections to the image. It's super sharp at f/1.8, bravo! Of course the depth-of-field is vapor-thin, so almost nothing is in focus: The STM focus of the RF35M is what I would consider fine for daily use but not what I would choose for action. I saw good accuracy, but I also noted that the focus system was not as sophisticated as what I’ve been seeing the better mirrorless lenses. Canon RF35M Image Quality Breakdown The weird square or polka-dot flare around the sun are sensor artifacts caused by me shining the full disk of the sun directly on the sensor in these photos that are exposed for the dark underside of the palm tree. You'll never see these in normal phots, and they come from the camera, not the lens.

Canon RF35M Build and Design

As indicated by the ‘IS’ in its name, the lens features optical image stabilisation. Canon claims this will allow you to shoot hand-held at shutter speeds five stops slower than would otherwise be possible without seeing blur from camera shake. It’s worth noting, though, that image stabilisation is always less effective at macro distances.
