This was bought on a whim, having seen a review by Andy at ProGuitarShop, but I am so pleased I did! Appearance-wise the pedal looks pretty good and appears rugged enough, certainly for studio use. True bypass is also a useful feature - I wish it was mandatory in pedals!

I'm using the theremin sound quite judiciously (no-one would really notice it's there unless I suddenly turned it off), and it sounds really nice, adding a subtle layer of delicate texture, bubbling and tweeting underneath the playing, especially in conjunction with a delay. At times it is very atmospheric and beautiful. Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine is arguably the most famous user of the Whammy, bringing it to the attention of countless guitarists wanting to recreate his distinctive sound. Steve Vai is another high-profile user, integrating it into his setup to achieve equally unconventional sounds and expand his virtuosic style. Distortion issues simply indicate some sort of issue, so it’s best if you claim your warranty. If all the settings are default and it’s still resulting in distortion, start by removing all the wires. Once all the connections are out, plug it in and then test it. This is a simple reset and should fix the issue in most cases. Otherwise, you may need to take the device for repairs. If the pedal is giving the correct signal and is functioning normally, but it seems to have an abnormally high level of noise, there are a number of potential causes for the issue. In the first place, examine the power supply. Using the incorrect power supply could result in noise and hum, in addition to causing harm to your pedal. Being able to select different harmonics is a brilliant feature. Personally so far, I'm not quite a fan of the Sub harmonic but it's good to know its there if I need it. Being able to toggle between latching and momentary mode on the fly is very convenient, but the real winner for me is the dry kill switch, leaving nothing but said ethereal wet tone. It's perfect for creating ambient pieces or textures. Another property of a wave is its period, which equals to one divided by the frequency, measuring the length and time of the wave. So, for that middle C on the piano the cycle repeats every 3.8 milliseconds. While a normal pure tone is a sine wave, it is much easier to create a square wave using an Arduino by turning the pin on, waiting for a certain amount of time, then turning the pin off and waiting again. Freqout This article highlights different approaches to making sounds and even entire songs with an Arduino. In 2013 Brett Hagman created the tone() library which is a good starting point for creating different types of sounds using an Arduino. As the examples in this article are gathered from the Arduino playground and were mostly created before 2013 a lot of steps are still done manually, which can be skipped when using the tone() library.

The short cut-off actually does annoy me, even though I was prepared for it. It must have been a hardware limitation rather than a design decision. Eight seconds is fine 90% of the time, but maddening when you really do need the signal to continue for a little longer. They could have at least made it fade out slowly. This is the pedal's largest failure, I think. If you have already done so, disregard this step. Using a cable tester is the most accurate technique to determine whether or not a cable is functional. There are a lot of testers available, and most of them are not too expensive. These testers are helpful. It is definitely not a replacement for ebow or sustainic to any useful extent, because the generated signal abruptly cuts off after 6 - 10 seconds. It doesn't even sound like those devices. Do NOT buy the Freqout thinking you're getting a cheap ebow alternative. Unbelievable. As soon as I first discovered this pedal I knew I had to have it. Pete Thorn once said this pedal was made for soloing and he was right, it's a joy to use while tearing out a solo, be it chaotic or melodic, or both simultaneously.
