This stunning picture book introduces race as just one of many chapters in a person's story" ( School Library Journal ). Harris, who holds the Manship-Maynard Endowed Chair of Race, Media, and Cultural Literacy at Louisiana State University. This would be great book to start a discussion about race and judging people based on their skin color, hair, clothes, etc. This book exemplifies that race is a part of who people are, but it does not define the person they want to be.

Reflections on therapists’ current comfort level with bringing Race into the therapy room will be explored as well as looking at the trauma we inflict on clients when we ignore it. It was published in 2005, when I was 12 years old, and I can definitely say this kind of colourblindness is something that was prominent then and it took a lot of unlearning for me personally.Shajeda shares her lived experience of racism, how this has shaped who she is today, and she talks about how we can create an anti-racist and inclusive working environment. It discusses race as well as superiority and the feelings involved with being put down based on race. The drawings are colorful and interesting but at the same time weird and unsettling, especially at the end of the book where he discusses taking off our skin. We understand that this is a first step in moving towards a more inclusive and welcoming space for all of our members and intend this initiative to open up a conversation that will be difficult and challenging but can enact real change throughout our College community, the University of Cambridge and society at large. It can be used in conventional workplaces, community groups, faith organisations, sporting clubs as well as other organisations.

To celebrate International Women's Day (8 March), Candice Brathwaite, influencer and founder of 'Make Motherhood Diverse', took part in a panel discussion held at the University. I appreciated his point that underneath our skin, our bones look very much alike, and that when we see a person we should not just take in what they appear to be, but we should start asking questions and wondering about that person's story. My 4 year old enjoyed answering the questions in the book as though she was having a conversation with the narrator.
