It's a scattered, inane sort of account by Alexa Chung of all her favourite style icons with photographs, doodles, and a few things she's learned over the years mixed in. Anyway, it's very short and kind of reads like a few months of someone's Tumblr blog, way more than I expected, so it turned out to be very nostalgic feeling indeed. Second, it reminded me of the value of documenting my life and what fuels it amid a time where everything remains digitalized and seems to move too fast.

Nobody goes through life without having their heart broken and one day you’ll wake up and it will be okay. Alexa Chung is a model and the co-host of the daily music television programme Fuse News, airing in the US. Extremely entertaining and rather hilarious, as well as informative and almost guidebook-ish, what more could you want? do you know of any book written before Jean Dawnay's Model Girl (1956) about the modeling industry / professional written from the model's perspective? Here was a golden opportunity for Chung to address this "thinsult" culture, the omnipresent negative facet of her success – but sadly she doesn't grasp it.What you get are poorly written excerpts of word vomit by Alexa Chung that don't give you any insight into her life/ her style/ or anything of interest AND on top of that some shitty hipster pictures (in all honesty my personal tumblr has better inspo pics). though it just at a glance looked ridiculously awful and I don't even know who Alexa Chung is (she's a model, I find out, but…) and fashion is something I don't care about.

The visual elements vary from photos Alexa shot herself, to photos of her icons on the silver screen from archival sources. Die-hard fans will no doubt embrace this slim, whimsical offering, or delight in receiving it as a gift. There are a couple of earlier books on my to read list that are written by agents, rather than models: Clyde Matthew Dessner's So You Want To Be a Model from 1943 and John Robert Powers's The Powers Girls from 1941.I will keep my eyes open and let you know if I unearth anything - I'd be really grateful if you could pop back and let me know if you find anything too :) Good luck! And that is what makes It likeable: the fact that it is relatable; women reading it everywhere around the world can see that an IT-model lives her everyday life just as every other person does – sometimes with suffering, often with silliness but always in her own way. However, all these extended quotes are also very personal insights into the girl: for example when Alexa tells how her love for horses influenced her style (»That silhouette of skinny trousers, ankle boots and an oversized sweatshirt is one I never managed to get away from.

I urged her to stop at Urban Outfitters to grab me a copy of IT, alongside some Polaroid film (I know, very IT of me). Some of the main motifs in IT consist of photo booth picture strips with no context at all, point-and-shoot images (nowadays extremely popular and loved online), doodles occupying one to two pages, lists, her oyster card scan, and oversaturated photos of writings in the sand that read “fuck you” and “the end” towards, you guessed it, the end of the book.

I thought going into this that it was going to sound semi-pretentious, but I – for the most part – really liked Alexa Chung’s writing voice. Clearly not a complexly put together novel or a young adult series by far, but this book gave me exactly what I wanted.

A truly one-off collection of Alexa's writing, doodles and photographs, It combines stories of early style inspirations such as her grandpa and the Spice Girls, discussion of figures of obsession like Jane Birkin and Annie Hall, and reflects on heartbreak, how to get dressed in the morning, the challenges of taking a good selfie, and more. Some reviewers appear to be morally offended that there isn't more substance to It but I don't see any reason not to enjoy this book if you know what you're getting into. Still, as a fan, I enjoyed taking a glimpse into her world and it makes a pretty addition to the stack of books on my bedside table. Plague journals, escapist literature, political history: explore our year in review, where we share rare book trends and a gallery of some of the most beautiful and interesting books sold in 2020.But again it doesn’t seem that deep, more than anything she’s just being “I’m not like other girls”. but to inspire vicious comments about her weight, or lack of it: how "ill" and "disgusting" she looks, and how she "needs to eat a burger". She’s bang on and open (to a point) about heartbreak (“Scrolling through photos [on Instagram] of girls your ex may or may not be shagging won’t help you.
