We wanted the boards to speak for themselves instead of being about us,’ says Redpath, adding that demasking will hopefully allow them more creative freedom. IAN: At the time of writing this I am feeling quite hot and sticky because it has been one of the hottest days of the year. But the best parts of the anthology involve the simplest British humour, which will raise a smile whether readers are hunkering down at home or negotiating a desolate commute.

Initially totally anonymous, going by the names N1 and E1, they were branded the “Banksys of the Underground” as they shared their words of wisdom and humor to highlight mental health challenges and simply raise a smile. Transport for London employees and dynamic masked duo, All on the Board (aka Jeremy and Ian), made it their mission to bring smiles to the faces of London commuters through writing creative messages, quotes and poems on the underground’s service information boards. The post caught the attention of a member of the former First Lady’s staff, and she later posted it on her Instagram story. The TFL station workers also wrote and read out a special message for the show, before discussing their new book titled All On The Board. Then she got out at North Greenwich and took a selfie in front of her own board for her own concert,’ laughs Jeremy, clearly chuffed. These inspiring, poignant, motivational and sometimes celebratory messages to commuters have gone down so well that the recent book devoted to them became a Sunday Times Bestseller. Sometimes it’s the wondrous nature of the experience that is so convincing or different and exciting that the message isn’t even that huge or original but is made memorable by being the end meaning of what I’ve just experienced and fallen in love with.

Join our Documentary Curators, Ellie Miles and Rosamund West, as they interview the dynamic masked duo behind All on the Board on the Museum’s Instagram page on Monday 7 December at 8pm. A collection of quotes on boards appearing on London Underground written by TFL employees E1 (Everyone) and N1 (No One). One side of each of the eleven wordless panels is populated by a series of faces of various hues floating on bold backgrounds, including, notably, one person who has a moko kauae, Māori women’s traditional chin tattoo. For more picture-book characters crossing over to board books, look for the bilingual Alma and Her Family / Alma y su familia and Alma, Head to Toe / Alma, de pies a cabeza (Candlewick; Alma and How She Got Her Name, rev. It's always nice to see these personalised signs on the Underground though it's usually the humorous ones I prefer. The collection covers topics such as Positively Positive, Love, Always Remembered, Mental Health, Real Life Heroes, . Read about how we’ll protect and use your data in our Privacy Notice. Build up an appetite for delicious small plates freshly prepared in-house and inspired by the world’s most exciting street food perfect for sharing. Referring to the feted street artist, N1 explains that they “quite liked the idea of being like the Banksys of the Underground”.

We were going through the Craig David songs that we knew, and we were singing them quite badly to one another, and then we thought, rather than having it say “Keep right” and it was a filthy board, we rubbed it out, put our little poem on it. What started off as using an information board on the Tube system to highlight Craig David’s concert turned into a national treasure. Staying healthy and protecting our mental health has been a massive challenge that has required collective effort and deliberate participation.I was also partial to a bit of Vanilla Ice and talked my dad into taking me to his concert at Wembley Arena and even tried to get a barber to style and cut my hair like Vanilla Ice, but my barber refused. For more lyrical board book titles, look for Puddle Song by Laura Purdie Salas, illustrated by Monique Felix (Creative Editions) and Barn in Winter: Safe and Warm on the Farm by Chambrae Griffith, illustrated by Taia Morley (Cottage Door). They started it all off back in 2017 when they were shepherding Craig David fans through a station on their way to a concert at the 02. A collection of quotes, poems etc that two employees of TFL (Transport For London) put on boards in the tube station for commuters to see and which have, by all accounts, acquired an almost legendary status.
