One of the first things that caught my eye is that the Osprey Farpoint 55 is actually a two-for-one deal. The Osprey Farpoint 55 Travel Pack utilizes a suitcase-like design that integrates a daypack for organization so that you can fit various-sized gear inside. At 15 liters, this pack is an excellent size to use as a personal item on the plane or every day so that you don’t constantly have to use your 55-liter pack. However, you can pack this bag as a top loader by simply unzipping the top and stuffing things inside, similar to how you would pack a backpacking or technical climbing backpack. After a post-college adventure around 6 Asian countries, she dove head-first into a writing career and travel lifestyle.

The new Farpoint series now comes with a fully adjustable Airscape back system and is made from recycled materials. Nate, the founder and CEO here at TL, has actually carried the Osprey Sojourn Porter 46 to over 60 countries so far! It’s come with me to climb volcanoes at sunrise in Bali, islands in Cambodia, and through national parks in Colombia. I’m similarly 6’5″ tall and need a versatile pack suitable for general travel in Europe and Asia, trekking the Camino, on and off trains, etc. Although I might check-in the bag, did you really have no issue when flying with Wizz-air and using it as a cabin bag/putting into the over-head compartment?I’ve had mixed experiences with these as they can just be a bit flimsy and unstable, and look like they could easily just zip off.

It has very handy handles on both the main and day packs which lend confidence when grabbing the pack from any side or angle, with or without the day pack attached, off a baggage carousel or anywhere else you might be grabbing and tossing it. Airlines don’t always specify how big a personal item can be, but the general guideline is that it should fit easily under the seat in front of you. We’re used to seeing saturated bags that are comfortable and can handle the trail or the concrete jungle, and that’s what we’ve got here. You can get an external case and put it in the main compartment, but that runs the risk of your laptop breaking, which is far from ideal. They’re pretty large, so you feel like you’re getting a hug while you have the straps engaged, which is comfortable and helps shift the weight from your shoulders to your hips. It’s just what you need if you end up checking your bag or don’t want to trip over the straps running through crowds. Featuring a zip-away spacer mesh ventilated backpanel, the Farpoint can be carried like a backpack but packed like a suitcase. While the Farpoint has a stiff outer rim on the back, the walls don’t really stand up when it’s empty, so it’s a more flexible pack. The suspension system can be protected if you're checking this bag by zipping a protective flap over the shoulder and hip belts.

Inside the main compartment on the side wall is a large zipped mesh pocket which is ideal for travel accessories and kit that you don’t want to lose. That said, I like the simplicity and how leaves it largely up to you how to organize things your own way.The should straps don’t even reach my shoulders lol, they hover up there and then the back of the bag hits my head when I look upwards. I also love the ability to zip away the main straps of the pack – it makes the entire bag looks so much smaller and neater, which is perfect for flights and long-haul journeys when I’m separated from my bag. I can put everything valuable in that day pack and not worry about being robbed back in a hotel or hostel I am staying. LD Mountain Centre does not accept responsibility for items being delayed through customs/ security checks or adverse weather conditions. r/onebag is an 'urban' travel community devoted to the idea of helping people lug around less crap; onebag travel.

Since Osprey was founded in 1974, every single product design has passed through the hands of owner and founder Mike Pfotenhauer, who created his first backpack at age 16.We’re curious how it stacks up to other packs we’ve tested and if any of the features from the Farpoint 40 have made their way into this pack.
