About this deal

Unlike in-ear monitors, over-ear cans are less finicky about achieving that and therefore, you get a more predictable outcome. They also come in an all-black color scheme and have the same understated look as the rest of the ATH-M series. Same with the hinges on the folding ear cups, which can break over time if you fold them up and transport them a lot.

In short, if the lack of distinct size adjustment positions and a long, non-detachable cable is not an issue, I would highly recommend these headphones for either doing some studio work or just listening to your favorite tunes.

For casual listening – these are pretty nice casual listening headphones and they can work well if you prefer more of a neutral sound with some emphasis in the lower high end. The Audio-Technica ATH-M30x are above-average-sounding headphones with a decently sturdy and comfortable design. Sennheiser HD200 PRO Studio Headphones The HD 200 PRO offers powerful and detailed sound for every monitoring task and for every budget. If you’re more concerned with finding something neutral-leaning for close listening or tracking, rather than perfect accuracy, the lightweight AKG K371 is definitely worth your time.

Maybe pricing in other countries makes that an easier option, but, here at least, it was too big a gap to cross. Lower bass notes have more thump, likely because those land in the parts of the frequency spectrum output with a subtle bump in decibels. The closed back design helps to keep room noise and other environmental sounds to a minimum, and it works well when playing electronic drums. The comfort is best on the latter two models as well because they are the lightest out of the range and have a slightly softer earpad covering material when compared to the M40x and the M50, on which the imitation leather is thicker and not as pliable.

The ATH-M30X model from Audio-Technica's ATH-M series features 40mm drivers and CCAW coils driven by neodymium magnets, delivering an impressive sound that can easily compete with much more expensive headphones. Also, unlike the ATH-M30x, it ships with three different removable cables, prolonging the life of the headset. With enhanced audio clarity and sound isolation, the ATH-M30x professional monitor headphones are tuned for highly detailed audio. Each one utilises rare earth magnets and copper-clad aluminium voice coils to ensure a precise aural experience. They are a little more lightweight and feel like they are lacking the build quality of more expensive Audio-Technica headphones. Whether you are a mixing engineer, studio producer, or audiophile, Audio Technica offer professional sound reproduction with the M-Series. offering 'exceptional clarity throughout an extended frequency range, with deep, accurate bass response'.
