Ultimately, 'WTS' offers perfectly competent hard rock that is almost certain to satisfy long-term fans.

The next song on our throwback road trip, Godspeed, has that head bobbing, straight kick groove going on and I love it. I haven’t talked about lyrical content but there is sort of an introspective feel on this entire album. And when I realized that the sound at the beginning which seems to be a guitar is actually Myles doing wonders with his voice, that’s when my mouth literally hit the floor. This is likely (at least in part) due to the busy careers these men have built, as alluded to earlier. As I was previewing this album the following two songs peaked my interest by not only being killer songs but made me think that if bands like those I mentioned above were dominating radio today like they did back in that era, this is what I think they could very well sound like. It is an understatement to say that it was a surprise when this song came out before the official release of the album as the fifth one to tease the fans. I feel that AB are an underrated act (if such as thing exists), failing to gain the extensive exposure in the States when compared to the adoration they appear to enjoy in Europe. It includes seven tracks with one new track titled "Last Rites" and six live versions of songs from Walk the Sky.

As someone who is quite familiar with the various side projects related to AB such as the aforementioned Tremonti as well as Projected, Slash and the Conspirators and the Mayfield Four, I consider myself rather well versed in the musical talents of Myles, Mark, Brian and Scott. Following In The Deep is again brushing along this calming vibe, even though the music itself is nothing close to slow or quiet.Alter Bridge guitar hero Mark Tremonti reflects on some of the most important songs of his life (spoiler: he really, really likes Metallica).

For now, 'Walk the Sky' will find a comfortable home in my playlists next to the bands’ previous works, but I doubt any of these tracks will be remembered as their best, which is the records biggest sin. Indeed after listening through a few more times, I became convinced that this would become one of my favorite AB records.

I’ll leave it up to you to interpret what Kennedy is trying to get across but taking a look at a lyric in the last song: I think this really sums up what I meant about a glimmer of hope in dark places. Considering that these men all have to eat at the end of the day in a market which is becoming increasingly saturated, this move is somewhat justified. We challenge ourselves to not repeat ourselves and find new inspiration to add a different layer to what we do.
