About this deal

On the A7G, this mode is Cinema Night with all unnecessary processing switched off manually and gamma set to 2. It is a really lovely picture too, I am used to a 3 year old budget samsung tv, but for my PC I use a relatively high end ultrawide ips monitor (LG 34gn850). The panel is reasonably fast too, when you factor in the backlight strobing possibly from being in game mode, it’s only 7ms from black to white which really isn’t bad. As always, for purists, we would recommend disabling the Ultra Smooth Motion settings for film and drama content, but there are user settings for use with video content and sports if you feel you need those.

It will playback HDR content, but it does so with limited dynamic range in terms of image brightness, but the wide colour performance is good. Its audio-visual chops earned it four stars in our review, while the slightly lower-specced U7K earned the same score. It has good image quality out of the box, that while not reference or highly accurate, is good enough for the use case this TV will fulfil. The former is a one-stop portal for free video content, though from what we could tell it was only YouTube videos clips repackaged together, rather than the more substantial free TV streaming services found in Samsung TV Plus or Rakuten TV. content also looked fair for the majority of content we viewed, without Ultra Smooth Motion engaged.

Unfortunately, its viewing angle is disappointing, so it's not very well suited for a wide seating arrangement. You’ll find 8-bit + FRC (frame rate control) here instead, which attempts to mimic the larger color palette of 10-bit.The latter, VIDAA Art, seems like a rehash or Samsung’s Art Mode – a service on Samsung’s designer TVs that lets you display classic artworks and paintings on your screen when the TV isn’t in use. Still, the cheaper Hisense has a very wide color gamut, excellent contrast, and superb black uniformity, so it's a tremendous choice for watching HDR movies as they really pop in a dark room. So at this point you are probably wondering why the hell I bought this if it’s got all those problems.

so while it is possible to set it up by yourself it’ll be much easier if you have another person to lend a hand. HDR is a disappointment on the A7G as it is just not bright enough to create peak highlight details or the steps of contrast required to produce a high dynamic range image that pops.Upscaling performance was reasonable with a slightly soft-looking image with some good quality SD channels and DVD discs, but HD 1080i and 1080p did look nice with solid straight lines and only minor signs of ringing around edges with some content.
