Understanding our relationship with the Prophet (S) in the past, present, and future: Shaykh Abdullah states that, if we truly internalize and understand the depth of the three tenses of our connection with the Prophet (S), we will naturally develop a deep love for the Messenger of Allah (S). Understanding the Seerah will also immensely benefit us to understand the Qur'an. The Quran is a profound book, and you cannot understand it without understanding the context. Another blessing of studying the Seerah is that it is the best way to increase our love for the Prophet (ﷺ). You can understand the importance of Seerah from the saying of ‘Ali ibn Al-Hussain (RA), the grandson of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA), who said: “We used to be taught Seerah of Rasulullah ﷺ just like we are taught the Qur’an.”

According to Wim Raven, it is often noted that a coherent image of Muhammad cannot be formed from the literature of sīra, whose authenticity and factual value have been questioned on a number of different grounds. [2] He lists the following arguments against the authenticity of sīra, followed here by counter arguments: Studying the Seerah gives Muslims insights into the Prophet’s ﷺ character, his teachings, and the context in which the Quran was revealed. It serves as a guide for Muslims on how to live according to the teachings of Islam.

The more you love the Prophet (ﷺ), the more you want to learn his Seerah. That is because a sign of loving someone is to want to know more about the person. So to study the Seerah is a sign of love, and through studying the Seerah, we increase our love. So it is a virtuous circle. As far as the meaning of the Seerah of the Prophet is concerned, it is the life of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, his interaction and behavior with his companions and his family members, his practice in his affairs as a leader of Muslims and head of an Islamic State, his dealings with non-Muslims both in the state of peace and war and his characteristics and mannerism. In a nutshell, any aspect or fact that is related to the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him is part of the Seerah of the Prophet.

If you want to defend the Prophet (ﷺ), then you need to know his life and times. How else are we going whether these claims are true or not? And if certain elements are true, how do we understand them and put them in context. So by studying the Seerah, we will be able to defend the Prophet (ﷺ), and there is no way to defend him other than by studying the Seerah. We have truly sent thee as a witness, as a bringer of Glad Tidings, and as a Warner. That you may believe in Allah and His Messenger and may aid him and revere him; and (that) you may declare His glory, morning and evening] Surat Al-Fath (48):8-9 Our goal should be that our children so deeply internalize an understanding and love for the Prophet (S) that they, too, can be filled with passion when hearing his praises. It was higher than anyone else even the prophets of the past and the stories of the previous prophets that came before the Prophet (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) raised the eeman of our Prophet (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam), then what else could the story of our own Prophet (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) do for our own eeman except increase it. Would it not be befitting for us then, that we turn to the seerah of RasoolAllah(Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) to increase our own eeman? Allah Subhanhu Wa Ta’Ala blessed Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with all the noble attributes and unique characteristics that make him the best among all the creations. You need to learn about your Muslim brothers and sisters all over the world. What happens in one part of the world should concern every Muslim in other parts of the world. We don’t want our roots to be severed. We want our roots to be deep. Studying the life of the Prophet ﷺ is the most important thing!

Studying seerah is a source of strengthening the Faith. Through studying seerah we can understand the stories of the nations that passed before us. The seerah of the Prophet (PBUH) relates these stories with a full explanation. Yet another benefit of studying the Seerah is that it is a miracle of the Prophet (ﷺ). When somebody asks you, what are the miracles of the Prophet (ﷺ)? Of course, we start thinking about the splitting of the moon, the talking of the tree, etc. But, we do not realize that his whole life is a miracle from beginning to end. His whole life indicates that he was the Prophet of Allah. He (ﷺ) did not know to read and write, yet came forth with the message, the profundity, the scripture, the eloquence of the Quran; that is a miracle. The commentators of IGI’s new edition of the Burdah observe, “Given that different biographers and historians have documented varied versions…not much is certain about Imam al-Busiri’s life.” Sources indicate the following:The Seerah of the Prophet (S), or, his biography, has filled many volumes. The question is: how do we make that history accessible and interesting for children today? Shaykh Abdullah dedicated twelve years to this endeavor, and after numerous revisions, he produced the “Seerah Song”, which was ultimately sung by the renowned nasheed artist Zain Bhikha. This epic poem details the characteristics of Rasulullah (S) and is meant to inspire a deep love for him.

Early works of sīra consist of multiple historical reports, or akhbār, and each report is called a khabar. [4] Sometimes the word tradition or hadith is used instead. As stated above, the Prophet(Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam)'s character is an excellent example for us to follow, and we can learn this example by studying the seerah. Mohammed (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) was a perfect model as a human being in each and every aspect of his life. He was a political leader, military leader, an imam, a father, and a husband. And there is no example better than his to be successful in any of these positions. His personality and character are like that of no other person and the best example for us to follow. Whose life is better to learn from than to learn from the life of the best man to ever walk the face of the earth, the Prophet (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). And there is no example better to follow than to follow the example of the man who Allah commands us to follow, the Messenger of Allah (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). By studying the Seerah, we also see the life and times of the best generation who ever lived. That is the generation of the Sahaba. Allah says this in over eight or nine verses in the Quran.

Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala) reminds the Prophet (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) in the Qur'aan of the stories of the prophets of the past and you find that the Prophet (Sal Allahu Alayhi Wa Sallam)'s eeman increasing due to this.
