He is Freak's best friend and, before the epidemic, always hung around with him. During the swimming pool episode, Deke dies after suffering a punctured lung from broken vending machine glass, and grown-ups take him away to eat him. The Dead is the second book in the series and the first book chronologically. It was published on the 16th September, 2010. The book follows a single story line of survivors, but is seen from their different perspectives: Small Sam and the Kid leave the safety of the Tower in search of his sister, but along the way they are trapped and must fight to escape.Small Sam and his unlikely ally, The Kid, have survived. They're safe with Ed and his friends at the Tower of London, but Sam is desperate to find his sister. The Fifth book in the series and along with The Sacrifice the fourth chronologically. It was released on 12th September, 2013. It follows three main plot lines with with a few chapters following other characters; Rose – The head doctor at the palace. She is loyal to David, but seems to feel guilty about imprisoning Maxie and Blue. According to Jester, she was originally from his group and came to the palace with him and others.
