Hearing my words being used to try to mitigate the crime committed. My words were weaponised to help Molly and Tom Martens get away with killing my Dad. The appeal court also found the jury had been erroneously instructed to disregard testimony supporting the contention that Thomas Martens feared he would be killed or seriously injured. However, she was suspicious, especially when Mr Corbett’s children told her they had seen the couple physically violent. She told police the children said they had seen their father grab Molly Martens and push her into a wall in the house. The first thing I want to state clearly is, I was a liar. From the age of four to ten years of age I was taught how to lie and manipulate people by Molly Martens. During this time, I was abused by Molly Martens in every way you can imagine and then some.

The sentencing hearing in the Jason Corbett manslaughter case has heard strongly contested evidence of domestic violence in the marriage of Molly Martens Corbett and Jason Corbett.

A DAD & DAUGHTER ON TRIAL

Still claiming he did what any father would do to protect his child, the defense's star witness, Tom Martens, takes the stand. No cameras were allowed but there is audio: When I was five years old, Molly Martens began her mind games. What kind of mother tells a five-year-old girl that her father killed her birth mom? Tom Martens told a 911 dispatcher that his son-in-law got into fight with his daughter and he had to intervene. "He's bleeding all over, and I, I may have killed him," he said. Connor Martens: I did not think it was possible that both of them would be convicted of second-degree murder.

Molly Martens had grown up in Knoxville, Tennessee. She had dropped out of Clemson University and was looking to begin a new chapter in her life. After nine days of testimony, arguments and graphic crime scene photos, the jury deliberated for just three hours. I never got to see him proud of me and the feeling of not having him alongside me haunts me in every dream. Every moment I walk this planet and it is so hard." During closing arguments, Alan Martin used the bat and paving stone from the Corbett bedroom to hit home his point at the prosecution table:

Prosecutors in Davidson County are planning to retry Jason Corbett’s wife and her father and now await a second hearing set for the week of 23 May. Martin says that meant Tom was standing over Jason, still swinging, after Jason could no longer have been a threat.

When Corbett left Ireland with his children and moved with his second wife to the US to take up a new job, they settled in a place known as Panther Creek in Davidson County in North Carolina. He will never walk me down the aisle. He will never meet my children, his grandkids. That future was taken from us. Instead, my life is filled with anniversaries of death.

She has let me be myself and learn about the world and form my own opinions. That is family and that is love. That is what my Dad would want. He loved me unconditionally. Jason's family supported the marriage. But when they arrived in the states for the wedding, they say they noticed Molly was behaving strangely.
