About this deal

The circumference of a Rounders ball should be 18 to 20 centimetres (7 to 8 inches). Balls should weigh between 65 and 85 grammes (2.2 to 3 ounces). Rounders bases are often made from wood, plastic, or metal. Using Rounders bases also helps to keep the poles in a vertical position. Ideally, a soft plastic sheath should be covering wooden posts to reduce player injuries.

You can find a concise list from A to Z of the principle key words and titles. Our rounders terminology guide lists definitions used by top players and game officials. Rounders is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams. Rounders is a striking and fielding team game that involves hitting a small, hard, leather-cased ball with a wooden, plastic, or metal bat that has a rounded end. The players score by running around the four bases on the field. [2] [3]To score one full point, the batter must hit the ball and run around the field to reach the 4th post before the bowler bowls the next ball. There are two umpires in an official game of rounders. One is the batting umpire and one is the bowling umpire. The batter's umpire should stand level with the batsman inside the batting square. They should be able to see the 1st post without a need to turn their head. The bowler's umpire needs to be able to see all of the playing area, and it is considered to be one of the most complex roles in rounders. GAA Rounders - Constitution". Gaelic Athletic Association. Archived from the original on 27 November 2020 . Retrieved 7 December 2020. Lesson five of the rounders scheme of work introduces the idea of tactics in rounders. The class will be tested to see if they understand the difference between tactics and strategy and will be given the opportunity to practise different tactics in rounders during match situations. What are some tactics in rounders? The ball circumference must be between 180 millimetres (7.1in) and 200 millimetres (7.9in) and the bat no more than 460 millimetres (18in) in length and 170 millimetres (6.7in) in diameter. Rounders England place a weight-limit of 370 grams (13oz) on the bat. The bases are laid out in a manner similar to a baseball diamond, except that batters run to a separate fourth base, at right-angles to third base and the batsman's base. [17] Each base is marked with poles, which must be able to support themselves and stand at a minimum of 1 metre (3ft 3in).

A batter's umpire has to keep the score of both the teams and call out any no-balls that are bowled. You score a half Rounder (½) if you get to the 4th post without hitting the ball (e.g. if you are not batting). A bowler's umpire also defines no-balls and calls out the start of play. As well as this, they have to make sure the bowler does not step out of their 'bowler's box' when bowling. There is no rule that you must move to the next post each time a ball gets bowled. But, a batter may not remain at the same post as another batsman. This is a short version of the traditional game, taking around half an hour to complete. Traditional rules apply, with the following differences: The first nationally formalised rules were drawn up by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland in 1884. The game is still regulated in Ireland by the GAA, through the GAA Rounders National Council ( Irish: Comhairle Cluiche Corr na hÉireann). In Great Britain it is regulated by Rounders England, which was formed in 1943. While the two associations are distinct, they share similar elements of game play and culture. Competitions are held between teams from both traditions. As a rule, a Rounders game will last for a period of two (2) full innings. The winning Rounders team will be the one that achieved most runs at the end of the game (see below). If a team is batting, all members of that team are ‘batters’. When batting, each of the team’s players will wait their turn to bat. There can be up to four batters on the field at one time - one about to bat, one at 1st base, one at 2nd base and one at 3rd base.

The competition begins when the bowler delivers (bowls) the ball to the person who is batting for the other team. The batter will try to hit the ball into an area of the Rounders pitch that has few fielders. Learning these 10 basic rules of rounders is helpful for newcomers, kids, and juniors to play the game. The basic regulations for Rounders have evolved since the simple ‘bat-and-ball’ fun days played several centuries ago. Thus, a situation could occur whereby both batters are between posts, with another coming towards them from behind. In this case, the overtaker would be called ‘out’.

Quick and easy rounders activities

Rounders England (England), GAA Rounders (Ireland), a division of the Gaelic Athletic Association [1] To play Walking Rounders, some rules need to be adapted to ensure that the game is played appropriately. If you’re playing a game competitively, these rules become important. In Ireland, the rules of rounders ( Irish: cluiche corr) are laid down by the Gaelic Athletic Association. [14] The GAA rules are the earliest nationally organised rules of play, being formalised in 1884. It is played on a larger pitch compared to the Rounders England game and consequently uses larger bats and slightly larger balls. A GAA rounders pitch is a 70-metre (77yd) square field and bases are 25 metres (27yd) apart, compared to 12 metres (13yd) for the Rounders England game. Foul ground runs along two adjacent sides of the pitch with a home base at the intersection of these sides. The traditional Rounders season is played outdoors and starts in April and ends in September, as the game moves indoors.

You should position it 7.5 meters from the batter’s square. The batting square is smaller and measures 2 meters.

The fielding team must field a minimum of six players (one on each base plus bowler and catcher). The total number of players on a team is limited to nine. One rounder is gained if the player hits the ball, then reaches the fourth post and touches it before the next ball is bowled and is not caught out and hit by the ball. A half rounder is gained if: the player reaches the fourth post having missed the ball; the player reaches the second post having hit the ball; if a batter is obstructed by a fielder whilst running; or if the same batter has two consecutive no balls. Rounders balls should clean and have no raised seams. The outer stitching should be uniform – not frayed or torn. Ball stitching should be flush to the leather material covering the surface of the round ball. Note: Rounders safety regulations suggest a minimum post swing around fifty (50) centimetres from its upright position to be safe and acceptable.
