If the Honor 90 Lite’s performance is merely adequate, then its stamina is generally excellent. I found that I was able to go through a day of moderate usage, with around four hours of screen-on time, and would still have a good 60% left in the tank. You’re looking at potentially two days of normal usage in between charges. Given that it runs on a relatively small 4,500mAh battery, that’s quite the turn up for the books, and it points to some effective battery optimisation on the part of Honor. Where that smaller cell gets found out somewhat is in more intensive media tasks. In our usual looping video test, the Honor 90 Lite lasted 16hrs 18mins, which falls well short of the Moto G73 5G and any number of Poco and Redmi phones running on more efficient Snapdragon chips and larger 5,000mAh cells.
The Honor 90 Lite runs on Android 13, but with a custom Magic UI 7.1 slathered on top. As with previous Honor phones, this doesn’t seem to offer the optimal Android experience. It’s a cluttered, clumsy UI with needless embellishments like super-sized folders and a split notification pane. Is this new camera set-up an improvement over the Honor 70 before it? Without being able to shoot with the two side-by-side, it’s impossible to say for sure, but I would suggest not. Given the choice, I would rather Honor had kept its hardware exactly the same and simply added OIS. Ultimately, it’s a solid setup that doesn’t disappoint, but it also doesn’t quite match the well-rounded capabilities of the Pixel 7a and the Galaxy A54 5G.The display curves more sharply at the corners than it did on the Honor 70, which can be an issue with some apps as it sometimes cuts off the odd icon or bit of information (although this was a rare occurrence, admittedly). What is impressive, though, is the screen-to-body ratio which sits at a massive 93.3% thanks to the incredibly minimal bezels that make the display feel almost completely end to end, particularly as it curves ever so slightly over the edges.

It still takes 12MP resolution images like the Pixel 7a, but produces an overall cooler shot, in a reversal from what we saw with the Honor's rear cameras. The detail of both shots is similar, but the strength and accuracy of the Pixel 7a's portrait effect is much better here, although neither phone did a good job at capturing the edge of my glasses. So there you have it, folks: the Honor 90’s display is easy on the eyes and easy on the eyes (I’ll see myself out). Of course while the main sensor and the ultra-wide have seen a megapixel increase and decrease respectively, it’s widely known now that megapixels do not automatically translate to the end result of a photograph. Google’s computational processing is exactly why the Pixel 7a is one of the best smartphone cameras you can buy in the mid-range category, and that’s working with a 64MP main sensor.

Honor's been very generous with storage space on the Honor 90 — you get 256GB by default with the option of upgrading to a 512GB model. Both the Pixel 7a and the Galaxy A54 only offer 128GB, though the A54 also offers a 256GB version in some markets and microSD expansion for up to another terabyte of space. But without shelling out for a roomy microSD card or extra cloud storage, you're going to fit the most stuff onto the Honor for the price.
