Description

The inside of the gloves is a Primaloft Gold Active+ material that's reassuringly fluffy to slip your hand into before heading out into the elements. Using a lobster design and bunching fingers together so they can cosy up for warmth is a common winter glove tactic, but while the outer three fingers are grouped together in a fat claw, they each get to snuggle into their own little compartment within that broader part of the glove. Inside the Velocio Alpha gloves you will find Polartec Alpha. Basically this is the newest wonder material. It's incredibly warm for the weight and it breathes better than any other modern synthetic insulation. Velocio wraps a stylish outer with plenty of colours available around Polartec Alpha and makes a glove that covers a huge range of temperatures while keeping the bulk low. The inner doesn't want to come out with your fingers when removing the gloves, either, which is a trait similar gloves can often like to annoy you with.

Mittens are known to be much warmer rather than gloves because they do not allow wind inside. However, the warmth edition comes with the price of dexterity. To give them the full test, though, plunging my right hand into some icy cold canal water confirmed that they're not waterproof in the submersible sense. Okay, that might be expecting a bit much, but I have worn gloves that have resisted my plunge test, and to describe these as waterproof is a little misleading. Water resistant, I'd say. Padding and control

If you’re gloves aren’t doing the job, and you don’t want to invest in a pricey new pair, or perhaps you’ve already got some heavy duty gloves but still feel the chill, it’s time for liners. Assos is second to market with a game changing product for those who ride in cold rain. Given that no glove is truly waterproof, the best you can hope for is warm and wet. Neoprene gloves will keep you warm even when wet but if the outside air is too cold then they need protection. A shell glove provides that protection but keep in mind, you won't be able to use a shell on its own. Not only would it not provide much warmth but the Assos RSR Thermo rain shell gloves use a five finger (standard glove) design that's sized perfectly to fit over the top of standard gloves in the same size. Without something as a liner, you'll swim in these gloves. If you live in Florida, a pair of lobster claw gloves will not leave your drawer. A pair of liners will keep your hands warm and happy when you ride your bike. Closure Velcros allow you to close your Moose Mitts when not being used. This is especially useful when the bike is sitting outside in the rain or snow.

Other than those few foibles, the Pearl Izumi AmFIB Lobster Gel gloves are at the top of my list. Tech Specs: Pearl Izumi AmFIB Lobster Gel gloves The more I investigated this problem, the more I heard that the best option would be a shell without any ability to absorb water. The only problem was that there wasn't a good option available, then the Sportful Lobster glove hit the market. These gloves are the solution you need if you want to ride long distances in cold rain. Sizing is a little peculiar. Large is my default, so in some respects I wasn't surprised to find our XL samples a little roomier in the fingertips, but in other respects it was bang on. On a mountain bike with decent brakes it's easy to do one-finger braking – it's often a recommended technique – and in this situation the GripGrabs' finger division was mostly fine, and thumb and index finger shifting was fine too.

These Dissent 133 gloves are actually a four-glove set, allowing you to layer for the weather. Amy Wolff At a certain point it becomes too cold to effectively warm up. You can't generate enough body heat either because you are riding slower, because your body has trouble keeping extremities warm, or just because it's too cold. When that happens, it's time to turn to a heated glove; the question is which one? Drybike Weathershields are a concept similar to pogies, but they are a little smaller and lighter weight. They are great for cyclists because we deal with very cold temperatures on our hands, yet we still need to brake and shift to ride safely. Normal gloves don’t keep us warm enough, and mittens don’t let us shift very well. That’s why lobster gloves are so great. What Are Pogies?
