About this deal

Unlike whole fruits which have fiber to slow their digestion, coconut blossom nectar is a refined sugar. It has been filtered, partially evaporated, and possibly pasteurized. It’s not Paleo and the Whole 30 diet categorizes it the same as other refined sweeteners. Big Tree Farms Coco Aminos is made with certified organic and fairtrade coconuts harvested by hand in Indonesia, where the company is based. Here in the U.S., however, it has only recently become popular as an alternative natural sweetener that has some added benefits over other varieties. For one, it tastes amazing!

Maple syrup is made using the sap of the maple tree. Like with coconut nectar, it is boiled up to evaporate off the water. The syrup is what remains. Other types of palm sugar are made from the kithul palm ( Caryota urens), Palmyra palm, the date palm, the sugar date palm, the sago palm or the sugar palm. Coconut aminos is usually made up of just two ingredients: coconut sap and salt. Coconut sap is harvested from the flowers of a coconut tree, and is sometimes referred to as coconut blossom nectar or coconut blossom sap. Do you have to refrigerate coconut aminos? It requires 10+ healthy (non-diabetic) individuals who must fast, then eat a carefully measured quantity of the food, and then have their blood glucose levels measured for 2 hours after. Participants have to be recruited (and presumably paid) along with the research service. It’s not a cheap or easy test. ( 4)Honey in its most natural and raw form, is a weighty competitor when it comes to natural sweetness. However, the honey that ends up on our breakfast table isn’t the same thing. This honey is farmed in enormous quantities and undergoes a pasteurisation process that also unfortunately zaps all the wonder stuff it contains, such as minerals, enzymes and the pollen it was made from. Every month a new inflorescence appears at the top of the coconut palm. Harvesters climb the tree, bind up the emerging flower bud, slice the end off, hang a cup beneath it and return every few hours to collect the sweet dripping sap (also called blossom nectar or “toddy”) However, as part of an otherwise healthy and balanced diet, there is always room for balance and the occasional sweet treat. And choosing coconut nectar as the sweetening ingredient of choice, when doing so, is a healthier option than reaching for many other sugars, such as highly refined white cane sugar.

It is fat-free since there’s no coconut oil in it. Though if you are under the assumption the nectar is sugar free, you are gravely mistaken. Coconut aminos can be used in a variety of ways! Try it out in different marinades, dressings, and stir-fries. Coconut Nectar provides slow release energy that wont cause high and low energy slumps like other sweeteners such as sugar do. However you can’t pigeonhole these sweet molecules into “bad for you” and “good for you” categories. There are pros and cons for each. One isn’t necessarily better than the other. The key is to consume sugars seldom and in small amounts, regardless of type.

Once tapped, however, the coconut blossoms, which would normally produce coconuts at some point, do not continue to further develop as fruit. a b "Coconut Sugar (Gula Jawa, Gula Merah) | Indonesia Eats | Authentic Online Indonesian Food Recipes" . Retrieved 2018-12-13. Our coconut syrup is also a great alternative to honey for vegans and in liquid form is excellent for making homemade chocolate with our cocoa liquors and powder. It is also delicious on pancakes, in smoothies, desserts and marinades. In some places, they climb the tree several times a day while in other places a spider’s web of ropes lets the harvester move from tree to tree without coming down. The nutrient-rich sap has 17 amino acids, a range of minerals and can be fermented into cider which then makes a vinegar better than famed apple cider vinegar. The fresh sap can also be reduced to make syrup or crystallised into sugar. Mixes of syrup, vinegar and spices are further blended, fermented and aged to produce a range of delicious sauces known for their flavour and nutritional profile. Coconut Secret says the nectar has a GI of 35, Big Tree Farms only says its “low-glycemic verified” and the brand Wholesome is silent on the topic altogether. If the value is 35 it would qualify as a low GI food, however the only brand reporting that number doesn’t provide the source.
