The crown is quite the winner. It has this unusual half toothed shape (the indentation is not all the way down to the base of the crown). I really like that. I don’t own any watch that has this type of crown shape. I find the tiny Nordgreen logo on the crown super cute. Love their attention to detail with this design. Unfortunately, there’s nothing special inside the watch, just a cheap Japanese Miyota movement, as used in loads of brand around this price point. This is fine and I guess accurate enough, it’s just not a clear positive in my opinion. You can get these movements in watches for a third of this retail price and you can buy the individual movements dirt cheap online. There are a lot of minimalist watches on the market (especially from designer brands), but the Philosopher manages to stand out. It features many small details that elevate the watch, and the brand is leading the way in terms of ethical business practices and eco-friendliness. The smooth organic form of the casing matched with the direct and subtle dial give the watch a sense of practicality with no fuss or loud colors. The hands are basic in form but well finished and interesting enough to read easily. The fit and finish throughout make the watch very comfortable to wear, it is both smooth and light and so does not cause any undue strain on the wrist ( unlike some heavy divers ). Overall the watch is a joy to use, its understated nature is a calm and refreshing change to a busy and hectic world, a quiet companion that is reliable and well made.

Okay, so I didn’t buy the Philosopher myself and it was gifted to me. But nevertheless, there is a massive feel good that goes along with a Nordgreen watch that I have to believe deflects any sort of buyers’ remorse. I certainly felt it as a gift recipient.I’ll dabble in a 44mm here and there. I have one 48mm watch, which I save for the days where I want to walk around feeling like a total boss.
