claimed. For me it less about the lumens, but more about how it uses the light on the trail. Tell us about the mounting. Is it faffy? Does it all stay in place? A smaller, lighter unit than many, the Light & Motion Seca Comp 2000 is controlled by two buttons, with the main one illuminated and the second operating orange sidelights for on-road use. Easy to fit, with lots of mounting options (including a seat rail mount, which is very good at this price), the Comet X-Pro also impresses with its intense output at full power. It might not have any clever tech, but this is a lightweight, reliable and good-value light, which makes it a compelling option. That being said, the countdown timer is amazing. It’s nice to be able to head out with a light that’s been sitting in the garage for a while and know how much time you have to work with. Every other light I tested uses some variation of the flashing yellow/red light to indicate battery life. I guess that’s better than nothing, but when you’re going out into the woods by yourself, it’s nice to have something a little more specific.

The brightness of your bike light should be determined by the type of riding that you’ll be doing. Whether you’re riding on trails, road, lighted streets are all factors to weight when selecting a bike light with the necessary brightness for your needs. Tell us what the light is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it? The matrix display shows battery life, which mode the light is in and how charged it is when plugged in. Alex Evans Class-leading illumination, top-quality construction and clever tech make this all-in-one light well worth its high price tag.In testing, we’ve found the PWR system to be totally fuss-free. The battery life is also pretty good for a mid-powered light. The Gemini Titan claims to output a very respectable 4,000 lumens, and while we didn’t specifically confirm the claim, we can confirm that its output in the real world is enormous – with our tester finding it could “turn night into day”. Don’t be fooled into thinking that the lumen rating of a bike light is the only thing that matters, though. A super-bright light that only has enough battery power to put out that headline figure for half an hour isn’t likely to be particularly useful, especially if you’ll need to use the most powerful setting for extended periods. The head unit has a single button that illuminates blue when the light is in one of its three constant modes and red when it’s in its single flashing mode. The button also switches colour once the battery has 10 per cent or less charge remaining. Fortunately, there’s a memory function so the light turns on with your preferred illumination pattern.

These can be controlled via its central button or the See.Sense app. The app will let you choose between six modes and a variety of features including a braking mode and theft alarm. The Oxford Ultratorch CL1600 provides plenty of lumens for your money, and it’s a good option for commuting. Combining a spotlight and wider optic, the light provides a broad beam as well as a more focused reach.
