AKG K612PRO Open-Back Over-Ear Premium Reference Studio

One can expect the elastic bands for regulating the headband height to loose it’s tension after a few years. I recently return my Fidelio x1 because weren't enough prominent the vocals, I wanted a sound more neutral, natural, detail and acurateBelow an aid to help determining the sound character of headphones with relation to the frequency response. The K712 is a close second, but I may not pay the asking price for it as it tends to be pretty steep. Secondly, the feel and comfort of them are phenomenal. I can wear them for 3+ hours and they are still as comfortable when I first put them on.

AKG K-612 Pro – Thomann UK

The K702 on the other hand is now my daily driver; I find myself reaching for it over all of the headphones I have here at the pad including the venerable HD600. Right channel only. The felt only lowers the peaks in amplitude and the rest remains exactly the same. K702 are flat with slightly more bass roll-off (low bass), and a bigger peak in the upper mids/treble. K612 have slightly more bass (marginal), remain quite flat, and don’t have quite the same peak in the highs (a little ‘more polite’).Comfort: Keep in mind that these are not fully broken in. The K612 is right up there with the the K7s, but WITHOUT the angled ear pads and headband bumps of the K701/K702/Q701, and a harder padding than the memory foam on the K702 Annies and K712. The pads are fairly hard against the head due to the firm padding and the clamping, so will be a bit less comfortable at first. However, when they start to conform to the shape of your head, they become much more comfortable. The pads are deep enough for most people's ears, however I have a point on my left ear, and recently I found that point touches the driver covering, causing irritation. To remedy this, I took off the left pad and removed the foam ring insert. This supposedly changes the sound ever so slightly but I don't really notice. Since removing that foam insert I find the left ear pad much better. As far as I know, the K612 pads are interchangeable with the K7-series ear pads. I have had fairly good results with damping the treble on some headphones using felt in front of the driver and it appears as though this headphone reacts well to this treatment as well.
