About this deal

This really depends on how much noise is a problem for you, but getting a compressor that does not make as much noise as a jet engine is a good idea for most people. Very crappy ones will tend to get noisier. An AS186 is not noiseless, but it is bearable because it only fills up the tank when it is needed. 6. Make sure it fits These devices are used to reduce or increase air pressure (PSI) to the air output. Compressed air may be held in the compressor's receiver (Tank) or may be supplied from a direct drive piston or diaphragm. The air output is controlled by the user by adjusting the air pressure regulator to a specific (PSI) setting for use with the airbrush.

Regulating the PSI of the compressor is a must for painting miniatures. You should get one that can go in the 10-40 PSI range. This will be the range you will most likely need for painting miniatures with it. An AS186 will be sufficient for this. 5. Low volume of noise It appears that some of these compressors shipped to the UK are fitted with a 13 amp fuse in the plug. This is the AS186 model most of us have used at some point, like the Bambi, it does have a reservoir. No stop tap on air supply outlet - not really an issue unless you regularly need to swop airbrushes and easily rectified. In short your compressor's horsepower rating is a measurement of the power of the compressors motor. Most small airbrush compressors will usuallyrange from 1/6 to 1/4 horsepower. This information is usually found in your compressor's manual.

So get a compressor with a water trap. It is the small plastic thing on the left of the compressor on the image above. 4. A way to regulate air pressure (PSI) and enough air power to airbrush miniatures If the compressor does not have a place to store the air, it will have to make it on demand when you pull the trigger of the brush. This means it will make noise constantly while painting! Also, the pressure will slowly drop, making it less consistent in spray pattern. Not what you want at all. Initial charge time for the air tank was 95 secs, reaching an indicated pressure of 4 bar (57 PSI) as per spec. I then held the airbrush valve open - the indicated pressure gradually dropped down to 3 bar (43 PSI) at which point the pump restarted. The underside of the tank has a brass screw-in stopper to allow the tank to be drained of any condensate. The tank also has a safety pressure valve. This compressor is suitable for commercial spraying, cosmetics, nail studios and Tattoo designs, illustrations, hobbies and modelling. But besides Badger, I have not seen issues with the other big brands. Other great compressors for airbrushing miniatures Many airbrush compressors will nothave an airtank, however all compressors that do haveair tanks will be fitted with a drain valve. You will find this valve at the lowest part of the compressor's tank. Gravity will help the water that condenses inside the tank flow to the lowest part. Prior to removing the drain valve its not a bad idea to wear rubber gloves and place a large open tray under the tank to catch the discoloured water. Now with the compressor switched off and any remaining pressure in the tank completelyexpelled, unscrew the drain valve all the way. The water will now drain from the tank into the open tray. Again, it makes for good standard practice to drain the tank as often as possible, remember as soon as you use your compressor you have water in the tank. If you don't drain the tank the chances are it will start rusting the tank from the inside. A collar on the drain tube on the bottom of the regulator can be lifted to release the air pressure from the tank and drain any condensate from the regulator water-trap.While some of the products in this article might be review copies sent to us by manufacturers, they have no say in what we write about them.
