I love how she didn't shy away from some of the deep and heartbreaking moments she encompassed upon in her life. Lisa is an inspiration to many, and I highly recommend this book to anyone & everyone! I liked the book most when Guerrero was detailing her experiences working for the Falcons and then the Patriots. I also was eager to hear how she'd describe her experience on Monday Night Football. And I certainly felt for her when she talked about some of the big, hard things happening in her personal life.

My most recent project has been a series of Frida Kahlo mixed media mosaic portraits. Like many Latinas, I consider her my favorite artist, and she represents beauty, strength, passion, and a fearless devotion to social justice as well as to her lifelong love, Diego Rivera. It had taken five days after the toddler’s murder for the cops to seal the home as a crime scene. It was a year before her clothes were sent to a crime lab. The police never separated the suspects before they interviewed them—so they had time to coordinate their stories. The cops never charged anyone, even though they called Juliette’s death a homicide. And when the principal witnesses and/or suspects left the state, law enforcement threw up its hands and just moved on. The more I read, the more furious I became. This was a little girl who had never had a chance, even in death. Juliette’s aunt had been leading a petition drive that would compel a grand jury to be convened and a special prosecutor to be appointed to investigate the unsolved crime. But Juliette’s story needed national attention to help Monica garner the necessary signatures. Guerrero's past wasn't a complete mystery to me but I think a lot of people my age may have associated her with a short run as a sideline reporter on Monday Night Football and a place alongside the hooting and hollering-infused boys club vibe of Fox Sports' now horribly dated Best Damn Sports Show Period. She seemed to coast in on a wave of networks trying ton meld sex appeal to their sports content, but the book reveals that not only is Guerrero as capable a sports mind as her male counterparts (typically she's far more capable, really), but her determination and perceived fearlessness make her an exceptional person who can blaze trails and upset status quos with the best of them.It would be difficult to question her toughness now. The book opens with a harrowing tale of how Guerrero helped solve the murder of 2-year-old Juliette Geurts in Nebraska. The girl’s aunt had grown frustrated with the police investigation and reached out to the media. Guerrero jumped into action, followed leads she said the police ignored, pressed witnesses into identifying the suspect, and, finally, confronted the suspect himself. The resulting report spurred the convening of a grand jury and, ultimately, charges for Dustin Chauncey of intentional child abuse resulting in death. Lisa Guerrero chronicles her iconic career—from dealing with harassment as a sports broadcaster to chasing “bad guys” for Inside Edition—and proves that through small, daily acts, bravery is a muscle we can strengthen over time. If he runs, I’m going to chase him and have this on-camera moment where I get the one question out that the victim would ask if she could,’’ Guerrero said. “I don’t get nervous at all. I figure if he hits me or pushes me or tries to grab the camera … to me it’s all in service to the story.” Lisa Guerrero is exactly what her last name means in Spanish, a warrior who inspires us to push forward. The book, Warrior, is a true journey of a tenacious woman who learned to find her voice and strength through painful experiences that no one knew she was enduring. Racism, sexism, misogyny, bullying, vicious criticism, rejection, and a broken marriage are everything Lisa Guerrero has experienced in her career as a Latina, sports journalist, investigative correspondent, and actress. It's a miracle that she is still standing today. I could not put down this book because every chapter brought another sports legend or powerful entertainer and a harsh lesson learned. I recommend Lisa's book to anyone who has questioned their role in their profession and personal life and even whether they should still exist in this world. Warrior will leave you inspired and empowered to take on the world."

Lisa Guerrero - Wikipedia

This is a mixed bag. Some very interesting stories combined with the author's skimming over important life details, then spending too much time complaining about the consequences she suffered from making very bad decisions. It makes for a quirky, entertaining and worthwhile book, but it doesn't have the kind of impact Lisa Guerrero wants and detracts from any credibility she thinks she has as a so-called "investigative journalist." There are light-hearted moments in the book, too. There was that time, for example, she walked down a hotel hallway with broadcaster John Madden after a production meeting in a conference room. He swiped a cookie off a leftover room service tray. “Finders, keepers,’’ Madden explained with a smile.Lisa Guerrero reveals that she had a miscarriage during her season on the “Monday Night Football” sidelines in 2003. Getty Images A few minutes later, I stood outside the courthouse, reporting on the latest development in Juliette’s story (the final chapter would come when Dustin was sentenced to eighty years to life). Later that night, when I returned to my hotel, I sobbed as the enormity of the day hit me.

I do confrontations every day,’’ Guerrero told The Athletic. “I feel like they are necessary, not to serve myself, but to serve the purpose of the story or the victim or survivor. … I feel like I’m being brave on their behalf.” Fast forward to reading “Warrior” - a real eye-opener! Her SoCal sports experience and interviews prior to MNF was impressive to say the least (Shaq, Kobe, Bonds). Learning about the work environment and what she was subjected to on and off the field brought additional respect for her. She was judged by many who never knew that was happening (until now!). This is a very brave lady.

As I got older, the loss of my mother felt bigger. I knew I was missing something crucial that everyone else had and took for granted. My brother and I would play hooky the Friday before Mother’s Day. We didn’t want to sit in the classroom while kids made crafts and cards for their moms. Dad always planned something fun to keep our minds off such holidays. Still, it was hard to forget that everyone we knew was celebrating something we couldn’t.
