I can't put this watch on without vivid memories of a time in horology when this sort of tech represented absolutely the last word in practical and functional timekeeping technology, long before terms like "tropical dial" and "ghost bezel" had arisen, to trouble the world.

Designed to be a great travel watch, the AE-1200WH allows the wearer to track multiple time zones, including a readout on a map. I have been admiring it in a desultory fashion for many years, and the other night, fueled by free-floating melancholy and a judicious titration of Russian Standard, I decided to splurge on one. As part of that design, we've also got 5 different alarms, on top of the normal Casio watch features. Well, the AE-1200WH is something that I've enjoyed more than the big G-Shocks, and more than the tiny F91W.

Nearly everything that I do on Primer Peak is paid for out of my own pocket, and my content is not shilled or driven by manufacturers or companies. When not trying to become a better shooter, he can be found enjoying a zombie videogame or listening to Warren Zevon. The really delicious feature of the watch is the world map display – this is found right above the main digital display of the time, and the current local time zone is in black. While I would still recommend the F91W to a lot of people, the AE-1200WH has become my go-to when I'm wearing a digital watch. While the case itself seems wide, the light weight and profile make this watch seem more medium rather than large.

Synthetic resin is the ideal material for wrist straps thanks to its extremely durable and flexible properties. I had it on me from 35 degrees Fahrenheit, up to 115f, with no cracking or issues caused by the change in temperature. We've minimized the paperwork and maximized protection, so you can stop worrying about your watches and focus on enjoying them. Like all really great tool watches – the classic Mark series pilot's watches, for example – the AE1200WH-1A gives every indication of not having been designed, per se, at all, but like the Mark series, its pragmatism in design and execution manages to transcend simple functionality, and achieve an aesthetic all its own.The World Time has more features, a better backlight, the ability to swap time zones quickly, and a larger, easier to read face. The water resistance rating is significantly better on the AE-1200WH, while the F91W is strictly water resistant, not rated to a depth. Though I started out mostly interested in history and the physics of precision timekeeping, it wasn't long before I began hankering for something modern. The daily alarm reminds you about recurring events with an acoustic signal at the time you have set.
