As much as Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery can be read as a stand alone, I do think it might be preferable to start with the first book in the trilogy. Polly's relationship has failed, her business has failed, she is homeless, bankrupt and living on the couch of her all too perfect best frien Even though running the bakery is hard work and doesn’t give much of an income, Polly is determined to make the next Christmas their best yet. But what was previously a weekend diversion suddenly becomes far more important as she pours her emotions into kneading and pounding the dough, and each loaf becomes better and better.

And the people and atmosphere of the small seaside village setting (which the author reveals IN THIS INTERVIEW was inspired by the real-life St Michael's Mount in Cornwell). I enjoyed the humor and romance Jenny Colgan brings out in the novel, and I also appreciated the varying voices of her characters as they struggled with some rather complicated moral and just plain emotional issues.

Polly’s ever-constant baking was also given much detail and constantly left you craving delicious breads.
