About this deal

His father’s eyes opened, and he gazed into the branches overhead, as if he saw things there that no-one else could. Though adversarial at first, Torak and Renn develop a mutual respect, and eventually become friends. Somehow, I had to find a way of finishing WOLF BROTHER, making a start on SPIRIT WALKER, AND writing THE SERPENT’S TOOTH.

This, together with the dog whistle Torak made to summon Wolf, makes Fin-Kedinn and Saeunn, the Raven Mage, view Torak as the fulfilment of a prophecy about a "Listener".Then he shouldered his quiver and bow, and scrabbled in the wreckage for his small black basalt axe. In this page-turning, original, and spectacularly told adventure story, Torak and Wolf are joined by an incredible cast of characters as they battle to save their world, in this first book in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series.

Through the whispering spruce trees comes an evil more terrible than any clan can imagine, let alone defeat. It opens up your eyes to a whole new world and i guarantee that you will never think of a book the same way again!

Ian McKellen Plot [ ] In the pre-agricultural Europe set six thousand years ago, after the end of the last Ice Age, the hunter-gatherers of the Forest live in clans. Around him the trees were bleeding: oozing golden pine-blood from the slashes the bear had inflicted. Torak is taken prisoner to the Raven camp so that his fate can be decided by Fin-Kedinn, the Raven Clan leader. Fin-Kedinn also reveals that Torak's father dedicated himself to thwarting a group of rogue mages, the Soul-Eaters, who have together turned to evil in their determination to rule the Forest. Torak and Wolf begin their ascent of the Mountain, pursued by the bear, which is drawn by the potency of the Nanuak.

In the valley to the west was the Redwater: too shallow for canoes, but good fishing in spring, when the salmon come up from the Sea. The prophecy describes the Listener as someone who “talks with silence”—Torak’s dog whistle—and “fights with air” (the blinding steam).Fa’s knife was beautiful and deadly, with a blade of banded blue slate shaped like a willow leaf, and a haft of red deer antler that was bound with elk sinew for a better grip. When I found out what ‘The Listener gives his heart’s blood to the Mountain…’ meant, I cried and I will do so when I finish all of the books.
