I last saw this a long time ago but I remember distinctly that the main character's parents and younger brother were the most hilarious part. Sugar Rush is a British show about a young woman discovering she is attracted to her straight friend (that old story). The story is endearing and although a little unlikely, plays out very gently against the quiet backdrop of the main character's world.
